Mars Pluto and the Alchemical Kitchen Sink

Mars, Pluto, and the Alchemical Kitchen Sink

Mars and Pluto make a conjunction at 0° Aquarius on February 14.

Mars and Pluto share Rulership in Scorpio.

Scorpio helps us face the truth. It governs revelation and the opposite of that, manipulation.

With them meeting in Aquarius, an Air sign that rules the mind, the collective, and ideological movements, this conjunction may elicit something like a massive revelation. Or a collective that is stuck in delusion. I think we can see both sides of this playing out.

Why? With things so intense, so much pain and historical trauma being touched on as victims of war all around the world are tuning into the many current conflicts playing out, we may find states of safety, certainty, camaraderie, righteousness and solidarity inside of ideological movements.

Pluto rules the chthonic realms and can evoke a need for catharsis… Given Mars relationship to desire, and factoring in the explosive emotions stirring in the deep, we must be careful not to get further entrenched in our ideologies, using them to bypass our own pain. It’s so easy to soothe ourselves with distortions, and lash out from this place. Rather than face the pain within ourselves.

Aquarius also relates to the progress, the future and how we evolve together. A shadow side of this, is group think, the mental singularity, or hive mind.

Our work right now is to maintain or come back into mental sovereignty. It’s an important time to unhook from places we’ve gone unconscious. To take a look at where we are hooked into collective thought forms, and detach from them.

Aquarius is wonderful at helping us remove ourselves from the personal, and instead of hooking into the collective, zoom lens out, taking on a brand new perspective. Aquarius, ruled by Saturn helps us see from the borderlands, edges, and thresholds. It’s co-Rulership to Uranus, allows these new vantage points to plug into higher consciousness.

We can all see the truth. Deep down we all know that what has worked in the past simply isn’t working anymore. We need new stories. To create new mythological groves. Not simply pit ourselves into divisive groups.

As we do the work to untangle from ideologies, it might be helpful to envision and live into genuinely new ways of being.

With Aquarius connection to individuation, begin with yourself.

One thing I don’t often see mentioned is Aquarius’ connection to the Celestial Sea, which comprises Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.

This is the time of year the Babylonian’s experienced torrential floods, and Egyptians related this to the flooding of the Nile.

Floods themselves signify dissolution. We spoke earlier in the week about Imbolc’s connection to the womb, and the sacral chakra, which is where Venus is on her journey. To the Star Card. And purification…All pointing to “Destruction, and the Hope that comes after the storm”

Today is Ash Wednesday. In alchemy, the dissolution (Tears) stage is just after Calcination, (turning to ash) which is associated to shock in the psyche. Think of everything we’ve just moved through, how shocking this has been.

Chemically, dissolution involves bathing the resulting ash with water. “Solve et Coagula” (dissolve and bind). When a substance, such as ash is dissolved in water its crystalline structure disintegrates. Alchemically this brings it to a purer state through break down.

For me, this all reads as a need to “FEEL IT ALL”. For many of us, we have moved through the past few years, and especially the last few months in a state of survival, frozen with horror.

We have now a profound opportunity to shake the shock and what has crystalized around that survival, loose, and allow it to dissolve. I know for me personally, moving through deep emotions, allowing things to flow freely makes me feel brand new. Purified again by my tears.

This is a wonderful time for a catharsis practice. To move frozen energy. To allow our emotions to have their way with us. Rather than using coping mechanisms to keep stuffing them back down.

Below I will link a practice for catharsis if this sounds like something you’d like to do. It speaks specifically about rage, but any state of catharsis can be accessed with the practices.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
