Mandate of the Scorpio New Moon…

We’ve heard the word “mandate” being bandied about over and over again this week. Synchronicities like this always pique my curiosity. So when I sat down to write, I thought I’d explore the “mandate” of the cosmos. Because, like practically every astrological headline in 2020, this forecast is no exception in it’s directive for groundbreaking, seismic, life altering shifts. The New Moon, at 23 degrees of Scorpio, is Sextile to Jupiter and Pluto, in Capricorn. Their message is to remember that a truce is different than peace. A truce indicates an absence of the aggravation that has plagued us. We might be tempted to just make a truce with our inner Leviathan, but that would be a mistake. We would miss the massive opportunity to be emissaries of light, carrying the new paradigm forward. We must do the work. Without travailing through the otherworld of our soul realm, we will not inherit the peace that is ours by divine right. The whole world is called to this mythopoetic conquest. We must raise our sword of clarity, cut away distraction, distortion, and illusion, and face the dragon, (Jupiter conjunct Pluto) as he is the gatekeeper of treasure, and in his mouth he holds a pearl of wisdom. Facing our fears, & defining them, robs them of the negative energy vortex that constantly threatens to consume us. The Leviathan thrives on creating chaos and confusion. It is his lifeblood. Our year of the lord, 2020, is a world crisis point. The Cluster of Planets, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto all sitting on the top of the World Axis, in the Cardinal Sign, of Capricorn, where the bones of our ancestors lie, where we encounter the misty veil after ascending our personal and collective “Everest”. We must roll up our sleeves and finally dare to lift the carpet, and look at what is REALLY there. Beyond the illusions, beyond the pretty cover, and flowery language. It’s time to hold up the mirror and face it all. This year will turn into an age if we neglect this work… The lesson plan “seems” endless, but really the work now is integration, surrender, and reclamation, while staying centered in the Truth.

The New Moon happens on the same day that Mars finally stations direct after his long retrogradation period through his home sign of Aries. He is asking us to bring forward the symbol or omen he presented to you at the end of July when his sky scratching sojourn began. Being roughly 3/4ths of the way through his syllabus, a period of intense refinement and integration awaits us. The professor is preparing us for our final exam in January of this year, when he finally moves on to uncharted territory.  What does it mean to stop, change direction, and go against the grain of your home, culture, sense of convenience, ease, and entrenched routines? What came up during the last several months that made you feel like you were boiling from the inside out? Mars is one of the initiator planets. Although he is directly attached to innate desires, will power, potency, the ego, pushing through to success, fighting the good fight, and martyrdom, his lessons largely lie in the fact that there is a balance of fate and free will. If you are attempting to control all the elements of your life, Mars retrograde is going to churn up serious aggravation as we are reminded that we are part of a larger story. He requires total surrender to the evolutionary process. We either fight for control, and wind up with a Frankenstein Monster of our own creation, or we allow the peaks and valleys of frustration to distill the practices we need to live a life in service to something greater than ourselves. Mars is asking us to examine how we deal with a direct challenge to our will? Do we lash out, or stuff our feelings down? What is our relationship to power, or feeling disempowered? What does real empowerment look, and feel like? How do we assert our sovereignty, without being attached to validation? How do we attain the object of our desires? His archetypes play out in the toxic masculine, power over paradigm, that tramples upon rules, and norms, to get what he wants, or the refined, mature, solar masculine, who unselfishly lives in devotion to the one heart. Moving with intention, rather than striking with aggression.

Weaving the background music of our Mars work, together with a plunge into the murky depths of a New Moon at 23 Scorpio, we are all feeling our way through the dark. That is the exact imagery of this time. We become feeling navigators, using our in-sight to lead the way. Are you getting the sense that nobody knows what the fuck is going on? Absolute chaos has broken out in the world, and we must surrender the illusion that someone is going to save us, that someone else is in charge, or that someone else has a plan. Because they don’t. The universe is practically begging us right now to recanvass our relationship to death, dying, and paralytic fear. The old way of dissociating from dark themes is in need of a system upgrade. We are being enticed to plug into the absolute knowing that the universe is being scripted minute by minute, and that truly the most real thing is this moment. The web of interconnection, of all things being here now, all at once, across all timelines, is where you should erect your altar. This is weirder than you could never imagine. A mind bending, belief suspending eternal moment. Scorpio lays the ground fallow. You can grasp nothing, and keep nothing. If you are feeling like you just can’t wrap your hands or your mind around this time, like you have fallen into the rabbit hole, like you ARE Alice, you are in perfect alignment with the mandate. Being Lunar Samhain, tomorrow heralds the first day of the Celtic New Year. We’ve passed through the portal of Wyrd, (meaning fate, to become, in Old English) it’s time to take up our positions, choose our colors, and claim our inheritance, fearlessly. All is well, all is well.

Damascena Tanis

Damascena is an Archetypal Astrologer, Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner, and The Facilitator of the Transformative Journey through the Mandala of Venus’ Wisdom, called “Sky Dancer”.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
